what is barn hunt?
Barn Hunt is a competitive dog sport in which dogs are able to act out their natural prey instincts in a safe and humane way. Domestic trained rats are placed in protective PVC tubes and are hidden on a straw bale course. Dogs and handlers work together to beat the clock to find all the rats. Teams can earn titles and ribbons as well! Barn Hunt titles are recognized by the AKC. To learn more about this fun and growing sport, visit the Barn Hunt Association web page.
Barn Hunt lessons are offered in Poulsbo, WA at our training barn. Our 3,000 sqft foot training barn can accommodate the newest of competitors all the way to those working on their master’s level performance. No matter your skill level, we have something for you! We offer private lessons, group classes, and pratice opportunities.
what training option is best for me?
-
Private Lessons
Private lessons are great for brand new dogs being introduced to the sport or more advanced dogs that need problem solving on a specific area of performance. The great thing about private lessons is that it is 100% customized for you and your dog. Private lessons are also a great option for those who just prefer a more quiet/low key training enviroment. Private lessons are a great stepping stone for sensitive dogs to build confidence before joining a group class.

Group Classes
Participating in group classes at some point in time is highly recommened to any dog planning on competing or is actively competing. Each team will get 3 working time slots that will rotate through a maximum of 5 participants. During this time you will receive coaching and tips to improve your skills, connection with your partner, and reach your team’s full potential. Group classes help simulate the distractions during trials and having to wait your turn for your run. Group classes are also a fantastic way to meet others who love barn hunt as much as you do!

Drop-in Pratice
Drop-in practices are run co-op style meaning everyone jumps in to help. You will get the opportunity to hide rats for other participants, time runs, and rat wrangle as well as run your dog 2 times. Coaching is not provided during practice times. The focus of practice times is to test you and your dog’s skills vs. learning/building new skills. Private lessons and group classes do provide coaching and learning opportunities.
